Texas A & M Health Sciences Center College of Medicine
Growing up in rural Jacksonville, Texas, I found myself outdoors and on the waters of the surrounding lakes year round. I filled my time with fishing, water activities, and playing soccer. Upon completion of high school, I spent 2 years at Tyler Junior College and transitioned to the University of Texas at Tyler for my undergraduate degree in biology. I became a physician scribe in emergency departments during my senior year which provided me with three years of time to travel and explore parts of California, Maine, Alaska, Guatemala, Bolivia, and Greece.
During medical school at Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine, I found my mind constantly on the ER. I could not wait to get back into the clinical environment. During my fourth year, I completed an away rotation in Corpus Christi. Described initially as a small town, the faculty and residents brought experiences from across the globe and their personalities complimented my own. After exploring the many residencies around the country, I could not find a better fit for all that I was looking for in a residency program.
After spending a couple months on rotations as a resident, I cannot be happier with my choice. My seven co-residents are amazing people and I feel we all care about the well-being of one another. The “family” that the residency program described is 100% fact. From the faculty, nurses, and staff; they want to see us succeed and become excellent emergency medicine physicians. In addition, my fiancé was immediately introduced and incorporated into the spouse’s group. She has made new friends quickly and easily. We have happily integrated into our new home!
So what’s for me after residency? It’s a little bit up in the air. My spouse is originally from Pennsylvania so I could possibly see us settling somewhere in between there and Texas. I want to continue my travels and I am finding interests in a couple of different areas, such as teaching and advocacy.
