Medical School: Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences
Hello all, and welcome to our program webpage. If you are reading this you are likely considering our program for your residency, which means you are already making good life choices. My name is Amber Neugebauer. I know what you’re thinking… what a boring generic last name. What can I say, I married into it. I grew up in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Yes… people actually live in Idaho. And no, I did not grow up on a potato farm. Coeur d’Alene is in the northern panhandle of Idaho and is beautiful. Mountains, lakes, and lots of snow… yep just like Corpus.
Now you might be wondering what brought me from mountains and snow to the sandy beaches of Corpus Christi? That’s easy, this program is amazing. Of all the many things this program has to offer I would argue there are two things that you will find in Corpus that you will not find in any other program: the family like atmosphere of the residents and faculty and the volume of critically ill patients you will see and care for. The residents hangout outside of work all of the time. I cannot say enough about the amazing people I now call family in this program.
While on shift there is always an attending, upper level or co-resident that is available to help navigate a complicated patient or procedure. Our patients are critically ill and have very limited access to care. You will be putting in lines and running resuscitations independently very early on in your training. This program from day one encourages interns to take the lead and manage critically ill patients. This allows our residents to become comfortable with taking on complex patients and pushing ourselves to manage very sick patients early in our training. Throughout the years you will continue to take on greater volume of ill patients and learn from the amazing pathology this population has to offer. We have a great deal of critical training in our off-service ICU months. These rotations allow you the time to work hand-in-hand with the trauma surgeons and intensivists, gaining even more insight into the management and course of the patients you are resuscitating in the ED. If you have anymore questions about our program please reach out to us and good luck finding your EM home.
