Medical School: Midwestern University - AZCOM

I was born in Houston, Texas and lived in the Lone Star State until I was 9 years old. Then my family moved to Boise, Idaho, where my brother and I grew up exploring rivers and mountains. I graduated from Boise State University with my degree in Communication, and spent the next 8 years in my hometown working as a television reporter, morning anchor and weather wonder-woman.

Broadcasting was a lot of fun. I got to see some pretty incredible things and be a part of an award-winning news team. Being a health reporter and following big trials in the area were probably my favorite assignments. Plus, doing the weather left me some extra time to work on med school prerequisites in the studio, when that bug bit.

After attending medical school at AZCOM in Glendale, Arizona, I applied to Emergency Medicine for residency. I am delighted that I matched at Texas A&M here in Corpus Christi. The program offers an approachable faculty, diverse pathology, plenty of autonomy, and all of the resources to make residents successful. Our conferences really improve our learning, and are applicable to our field. We have excellent teachers in both the faculty and the upper level residents, and with only two residency programs in the hospital, there is plenty of work.

Corpus Christi is a great city for families. My kids love the beach and the outdoor activities, and attend excellent public schools. I’m looking forward to taking some weekend trips to visit my family scattered around the state, and my kids will make sure we hit up Six Flags and SeaWorld while we’re here. But, the best thing about training at Christus Spohn is the incredible support you feel from attendings, fellow residents, and staff. Our residency really is like a family, and I’m grateful to call this program “home.”
