Medical School: Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences
I was born and raised in Alaska, in a small fishing village on Katchemak Bay. At 19 I went to paramedic school and began my career in emergency medicine. As a paramedic I worked in remote locations throughout Alaska. While providing emergent care, I was often forced into primary care due to the isolation. Though I had great support from online medical control, I wanted more education to better serve my patients.
While getting my BS in Natural Sciences at Univ. of Alaska Anchorage, I met my husband in the nearby ski resort town we called home and now we have a beautiful baby boy. I attended medical school at Pacific Northwest Univ. of Health Sciences.
Now, people always ask, 1) "Aren't you hot?" - Well yes, but we live on Padre Island, there is always a breeze, and it's very comfortable. And 2) "Why Corpus Christi, Texas???" - There are so many factors that impacted our decision to come here. First, Alaska does not have an EM residency. Second, the unopposed residency in Corpus allows me to get the experience to practice independently in more remote areas of Alaska. 3) The beach, surfing, and sun. My family and I are thrilled to be here for a busy and exciting 3 year residency.
