I was born and raised in Cloverdale, British Columbia and spent the majority of my younger years playing hockey. And like all boys growing up in Canada, I was going to play in the NHL! Even though I didn't make it to the big leagues, the sport gave me opportunities that shaped my life. I was fortunate enough to play hockey for a year at Texas Tech, which is where I met my wife.

While finishing up my undergraduate degree back in BC, I worked as an EMT on a passenger ferry. It is hard to pinpoint exactly when I knew EM was my calling, but this job played a big role because I enjoyed interacting with a variety of people and seeing all types of medical problems. This job also had the benefit of seeing orcas, humpback whales, or dolphins almost every day.

Shortly after getting married, my wife and I moved to Fort Worth for medical school, and we loved our time there. I was able to do a rotation in Corpus Christi as a medical student and quickly saw how strong the residents were, both diagnostically and procedurally. We were very excited on Match Day when we opened the envelope and got to come to Corpus Christi.
