On my very first shift as a medical student in the old ER at Shoreline, my patient needed a central line put in. And I got to do it. It was my patient, my procedure, my responsibility. The senior resident stood by my side and walked me through it step by step. When I struggled they didn’t just step in and rip the procedure away from me, they just talked me through it, helped me learn. When it came time to make my rank list, this day stuck out to me as to why I wanted to go to Corpus. People aren’t fighting one another to get procedures. Everyone is helping one-another to try and get better each day. I was struck by how close everyone was and how much everyone was on the same page. We’re essentially unopposed in the ED, without anyone trying to take over our procedures or patients. On each of the subsequent EM rotations I did, I found myself thinking back fondly to Corpus and wishing I could be back. Luckily on Match day my wife and I found out we were coming to Corpus! My wife and I welcomed our first child in August 2019, so sleep is just a distant fantasy now.

Come check out Corpus! It's a great program with great residents, great attendings, and awesome opportunities. And having a beach right here isn’t too shabby either.
