Medical School: Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University

I grew up in Saint David, AZ a small town on the southern border that did not have any stoplights. I have 6 younger siblings, and we had lots of adventures together and we raised animals including goats, a horse, chickens, and dogs. Inevitably, there were accidents and injuries in my large family which led me to find my love of emergency medicine. I spent 2 years away from home in Louisville, KY and the surrounding areas where I served a religious mission for my church. I then completed my undergraduate degree in Human Biology at Brigham Young University - Idaho. After school, I did CPR research at the University of Arizona.  I did medical school back in Arizona at Midwestern University and after my first year I did an international humanitarian trip in a rural village in Fiji with an EM physician and that helped me decide on this specialty.  I enjoy playing sports, including spikeball and frisbee, working out, singing, reading and cooking in my free time.

I chose Corpus Christi because of the culture here. I went through all of the websites of EM residency programs and made a list where the residents' bios consistently expressed happiness with the leadership, learning environment and the people. I also talked to all the people that I knew that matched EM and asked during their interviews where did they enjoy the most. Corpus Christi was frequently mentioned and so I did an ultrasound rotation here and loved it.

I could not be happier with the program. My senior residents are so competent and are wonderful teachers. I am so supported in everything I do by fellow residents and faculty. I know where to go if I need help and the faculty are very approachable.  I am convinced this is the ideal setting to maximize learning and growth while in residency, and at the same time, it is very conducive to a happy life. Residency is hard, and being around the right people and support system is essential.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions.
