Medical School: A. T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine

I grew up in Minnesota just north of Minneapolis/St. Paul where it is a little colder than down here in Corpus Christi.  As any good Minnesotan should, I spent most of my time either fishing out on the lake or at the hockey rink.  After high school I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for a career, so I decided to follow in my dad’s footsteps and study Engineering at Iowa State University.  I soon found out that I enjoyed the problem-solving aspect of engineering but needed more human interaction, so I did some physician shadowing and decided that medical school was a good fit.  I finished my undergraduate studies in beautiful Duluth, Minnesota.

I got my first real taste of Emergency Medicine during the year after graduation when I worked as a scribe in the ED in Minneapolis.  After my year of scribing, I started medical school at A.T. Still University – KCOM, in the bustling metropolis of Kirksville, Missouri.  While in Kirksville I met my fiancé, Jordyn Ewbank, who was a year ahead of me and also interested in EM.  We did our clinical rotations in Phoenix Arizona where we spent all of our free time working out at the local CrossFit gym, hiking and exploring all around Arizona and Utah.

Jordyn matched into the EM program here in Corpus Christi and I was fortunate enough to match here the following year.  We have loved our time in Corpus so far.  Our program is unopposed and that was a huge draw for us.  As the EM resident, we get to do every single procedure in the department and do not have to compete for procedures with surgery, anesthesia or medicine residents.  When we’re not working, we like to hang out with other residents, attendings and medical students, go to the beach and workout in our garage gym.

If you have any questions about the program or the city don’t hesitate to ask.  We would love to have you rotate with us and see what we have to offer at CHRISTUS Health-Texas A&M College of Medicine Emergency Medicine Residency Program!
