Medical School: Oklahoma State University Health Sciences Center
Undergraduate: Oklahoma State University
I was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I lived my entire life in a small town about 10 miles south of Tulsa, called Glenpool, the “town that made Tulsa famous.” I graduated from Glenpool High School in 2007. I was raised in a Sooner household, but chose to attend Oklahoma State University, a.k.a the “Darkside,” as we called it. I graduated in 2011 with a degree in Biological Sciences. I took a year off and became a teacher/coach, which I really enjoyed. During that year, I continually found myself encouraging my students to dream big, but realized that I was not following my own advice. I got motivated, applied to medical school and was accepted into the MBA/DO program at OSUCOM. I taught for one more year while getting my MBA at night and started medical school at OSUCOM after that.
When it came to choosing a residency program, I was almost certain that I wanted to stay in Oklahoma close to family. I rotated at a variety of trauma centers across the country. Corpus Christi was my second rotation, and thereafter, I found myself comparing every place I rotated or interviewed with to CC.
The experience here is exceptional. This is an unopposed residency which means you are it: no surgery residents, no orthopedic residents, you and only you. You see very sick people on day 1, which was not the case at other places. My first shift included a STEMI, an intubation in the ED, and a cardiopulmonary arrest code on the floor that included an intubation as well. You perform more procedures than you can log in your procedure book. The people here are awesome as well, both in and outside of the emergency department. They are very supportive of you as a person. I have no regrets about coming here to train, and no doubts in my mind that I will be able to work wherever I want when I am finished
In my free time, my beautiful wife and I enjoy taking our son to the beach, aquarium, and other nearby attractions. We are close enough to San Antonio to make some day trips to SeaWorld, as well. We never imagined we would live at the beach, but have enjoyed sharing this beautiful environment with our son. Our family comes to visit often, which makes it much easier being far away from them.
Please take a closer look at the program. We would love to have you come rotate with us, and maybe even join the residency family. We would love to show you what makes this place so special!
