Dr. Haley Sutherland

Haley Sutherland, DO

Medical School: University of North Texas Health Science Center

Undergraduate: Abilene Christian University

I am proud to be a native Texan, but I also love to travel and see the world.  I grew up in Fort Worth and, for better or worse, will always be a Cowboy, Maverick, and Ranger fan.  When I’m not working, I love to go explore the outdoors, garden, cook, and spend time with friends. I’m a big softie when it comes to stray animals, and I regularly foster dogs, cats, and sometimes birds.

My undergraduate degree is from Abilene Christian University, and during my time in college I was blessed to be able to spend time in South America and in East Africa.  I toyed with the idea of going to medical school but wasn’t yet ready to take the plunge. After graduation, I got a job as an EMT and later became a paramedic, and I enjoyed it so much I did that for almost seven years (yes, I’ve got some crazy stories).

When I was finally hungry enough for more knowledge, I started medical school at the University of North Texas. My medical school rotations took me to four countries and six states.  Someday I would love to do international medicine and disaster relief medicine. Anyhow, on the interview trail I saw a lot of solid programs, but Corpus Christi stood out to me.  Our faculty is approachable, down-to-earth, and hilarious, and there is truly a family feel among the residents. The best way for me to learn is by doing, and I did more procedures as a third-year med student in Corpus Christi than some of the PGY2 residents had done in at other programs.  I also love the city for its laid-back vibe, the affordable cost of living, and, of course, the beach!
